Chain of custody fails in practice not because anyone acts in bad faith but because handoffs get recorded on paper, in spreadsheets, or not at all. When the record is challenged years later, gaps that were administratively trivial at the time become the entire argument. CustodyTrack closes those gaps by making each transfer a signed, timestamped entry that cannot be silently revised after the fact.

The platform handles physical exhibits and digital artefacts under one record, which matters because modern matters rarely involve only one. A seized device, its forensic image, and the derived exports all belong to a single custodial history, and separating them across systems is how discrepancies appear.

Records are generated in a form intended to survive adversarial scrutiny — the question a platform like this must answer is not “what happened” but “how do you know, and can you prove the record was not altered.”
